Youth Ambassador Program

Riverview Intermediate Unit 6 (RIU 6) piloted the Youth Ambassador program in June of 2022. This program was developed through the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Bureau of Special Education (BSE) and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor ad Industry's Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). The program allows students to work collaboratively with teachers, OVR counselors, Local Education Agencies (LEA), Transition Coordinators, Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) staff, and the Bureau of Special Education staff to improve the transition of students with disabilities from high school to life after school. Youth Ambassadors have the opportunity to participate in local and statewide meetings and assist with program development.

Our RIU 6 Youth Ambassadors formed their own local youth group known as C.O.R.E. for Youth. They bring youth together to participate in games and activities while building friendships and reducing isolation. Youth Ambassadors visit classrooms to communicate with students about self-advocacy, self-determination, and leadership skills.

The following students have filled this position with us so far:

1) William Gruver from Clarion-Limestone School District,
